Are you looking to find something relaxing and mindful? Your modern calligraphy beginner starter kit for brush pen will take you through the basic skills required to take you on a calligraphy journey you won’t regret.
In my face to face workshops students have the opportunity to try a variety of brush pens and soon realise that choosing a pen is not as easy as it seems. In this kit you will receive not just one but five brush pens. Three different black pens and two coloured ones, because who doesn’t love a bit of colour.
By the time you have finished you will be writing beautiful lettering on gifts and parcels just like the images you can see here.
What will you receive in your lovely box?
A workbook with clear illustrations, guidance notes, practice sheets and templates to trace over with your pen
5 x High quality brush pens (black and coloured) including a double ended brush pen with bullet tip
A5 Rhodia dot notebook to practice your lettering
5 sheets of layout paper suitable for practice and tracing over templates
Blank quote cards for you to write something special on using your new skills
5 x Gift tags
5 x Envelopes
Your work book covers clear instructions on how to use your brush pen, how to hold it and how to create those beautiful thick and thin strokes so important in your lettering. Although the templates have been designed by Lettering by the Sea especially for the beginner, they are also suitable for anyone returning to calligraphy or needing a bit of additional tuition. Whether you are right handed or left handed this kit will be suitable for you.
At the beginning of the workbook, and to introduce you to the concept of thick and thin strokes, you will be creating calligraphy using an ordinary pen or pencil to draw outline letters known as faux calligraphy. You will then start with mark making exercises using your brush pen to get you used to creating the strokes with a brush pen followed by letters. Templates are designed in such a way that exemplar strokes and letters are written in black with transparent grey traceable copies to write over, with a stroke order reference for both lower and upper case letters to guide you. Finally there are numbers and one or two commonly used symbols to learn. I have also included an alternative alphabet design which you can trace with the layout paper and practice in the notebook.
After you have spent some time learning how to construct lower and upper case letters you will get the opportunity to understand how to join letters and write some words and again there are traceable templates and a spare practice sheet. The last sheets are designed quotes for you to trace or even copy free hand.
